What it is…
Solution focused hypnotherapy combines hypnosis and psychotherapy (talking therapy), using well researched strategies including solution focused questioning, neuroplasticity (brain) training and positive psychology.
It focuses on a ‘preferred’ future rather than dwelling on past or present problems making it a very acceptable accessible therapy that can help bring about powerful and positive changes in a relatively short time.
Hypnosis (trance like state) is nothing to be wary of, it is a perfectly natural state, it is like daydreaming. In this state, the subconscious mind is more susceptible to suggestion, making it possible to question our innate belief system that may be causing anxieties or keeping us stuck in unhelpful patterns of behaviour. In this relaxed state of heightened awareness, we are open to exploring possible solutions towards achieving our goals. It is a chance to practise an inner mental rehearsal of our ‘preferred’ future. It is important to remember that during hypnosis you are completely in control, the subconscious will only accept suggestions that align with your values.
The benefits of hypnotherapy
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can help you find solutions to bring about change, improve your quality of life and fulfil your potential.
Hypnotherapy is beneficial across a broad spectrum. In general, it is helpful in allowing people to regain control over areas of their life they wish to change and in shifting thought patterns from negative to positive. It has been shown to help reduce stress and anxiety, build confidence and self-control, deal with fears or phobias, as well as improve performance.
Hypnotherapy can help with:
- Stress and anxiety
- Confidence and self-esteem
- Personal Development
- Dealing with expected & unexpected life events (For example – menopause, retirement, bereavement, Illness etc…)
- Fears and phobias
- Low mood
- Addictions
How it works (the science bit!)
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy combines a solution focused approach, together with hypnosis and a neuroscientific understanding about the brain. It is concerned with how change can happen rather than how problems develop.
In this therapy, the client and therapist work together to enable the client to find positive solutions to issues using their own initiatives.
It draws from both cognitive and behavioural approaches. It raises awareness of how thinking, emotions (feelings) and behaviour are interrelated and utilises goal and task setting. During guided hypnosis, the client’s attention is completely focused inward, accessing their subconscious, which is open to positive suggestion and it is in this state, that the client can rehearse the change they wish to make.
Central to how the process works, is gaining an understanding from the brain science of “what we do and why?” and “why we feel the way we do?”. These explanations are a powerful component of the initial consultation often resulting in ‘light bulb’ moments for the client and are built upon in subsequent sessions. The more we understand and appreciate that our experience is part of the human condition, the more we are in a better position to make changes.
A key component of Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, is to encourage the client to engage their intellectual brain and specifically to activate their left prefrontal cortex. When we are operating in this realm, we are positive, more reward and approach orientated. During hypnosis, this area can be strengthened. Overtime, this results in the client gaining greater intellectual control, sleeping better as stress is reduced, becoming more confident and making better decisions.

I have a built a lovely bond with her and shared all the problems I have had in the past year. She has pin pointed my therapy to exactly what I have been struggling with and I have found all the advice she has given me on dealing with difficult situations, like lack of sleep and anxiety over medical appointments so very helpful. I now use them in all my day to day life.

Like any therapy, it is comforting to know the time is for me. I feel properly listened to and understood. Gail is professional, knowledgeable and sensitive.
The recording has been wonderful for helping me rest and sleep and I also really enjoy the live hypnotherapy.
It’s hard quantify how much less anxious I am and how much more confident I feel, but I am certain that it has had a positive impact. I feel stronger internally, more in control.”

Nicola – Hypnotherapy & Psychotherapy sessions
“I was totally unprepared for the immediate and positive effect that my sessions would have on other aspects of life and my overall wellbeing. The increase in confidence that I gained from my first two practices led me to make decisions that have dramatically improved my life.
Hypnotherapy has without a doubt made me think more clearly and positively and given me the confidence to achieve things that years of previous experience effort and practice had not.”
